After the PVS-2, installed and started up to the customer’s enormous satisfaction, the company has now purchased the new Sacmi PVS-3 system, designed for high speed checking of preform lots.
A leading Spanish company, involved in fields as diverse as mining, energy, plastic polymers and agro-food, has been using the Sacmi PVS-2 to inspect samples on its PET preform production line.
The strength of this solution stems from the fact that the PVS-2 can run a complete set of checks that cover dimension, weight etc. and can read cavity numbers. Specifically designed to aid daily tasks in quality control departments, the PVS-2 lets users perform a complete range of checks on the entire preform. It also includes the special Sacmi-patented backlight that, thanks to the innovative “grid” method, can trace defects that would otherwise only be detected with polarized light (e.g. faults caused by the cooling process or watermarks).
The supplied solution also features fast size changeovers and advanced statistical data management. Moreover, like all systems designed by the Sacmi Automation & Inspection Systems Division, it is equipped with CVS 3000 2.2 64 bit software, designed to maximise usability and interoperability among machines in keeping with Industry 4.0 precepts. Just a few months after installation, the customer expressed enormous satisfaction: so much so that the Spanish company has now decided to purchase the new Sacmi PVS-3 model for high speed checking of potentially faulty preform lots.
High-performance and versatile, the PVS-3 can be installed in line with a new or existing injection press and is suitable for both in-line and off-line applications. Once again, the system can run standard checks that range from inspection of the preform opening to the finish (especially the thread), body and bottom. Optional features include, as with the PVS 2, the exclusive Sacmi backlighting device which intercepts defects that could otherwise only be detected with polarised light (e.g. condensation, orange peel effect, watermarks, etc.).
Thanks to the flexibility of the software platform, it’s also possible to equip the Sacmi PVS 3 with both black and white video cameras and ultra-high resolution colour acquisition devices; the latter are designed for thorough inspection of preform colour. With regard to in-line operation, the optional automatic centrifugal positioner is also of particular interest as it enhances efficiency, is nicely compact and makes investment decisions regarding existing lines easier.
